Bodegas Ricla is one of my favourite wine bars to haunt in Madrid, however it did not start out as a wine bar. Opened in 1867 as a wine shop on the outskirts of Plaza Mayor, it is one of Madrid´s jewels hidden in plain sight. 30 odd years ago Anna, the current owner, took over and quickly became famous for traditional home cooking that they serve along with the excellent and ever-changing wines. Nowadays the bar is still run by Anna and her two sons, Emilio and Jose, and is a blend of a traditional Madrid tavern and a contemporary wine bar.
Welcome to my little corner of the internet where I will be reviewing everything that can be quaffed in Spain. The idea is to explore and share all the wonderful tipples that Spain has to offer.
Working in the drinks business since I can remember I am now running wine tours with Devour Tours, studying with WSET and in my free time hunting for the best wines, perfect cocktails and locally brewed craft beers in and around Madrid.
